What Is Neuropathy?

Peripheral Neuropathy is a degenerative condition, which manifests as burning, tingling, or numbness in the hands and or feet. Affected persons often describe symptoms in a stocking or glove distribution.

Peripheral Neuropathy can result from endocrine abnormalities such as diabetes mellitus, traumatic injuries, over exposure to toxins such as alcohol or chemotherapy. In some instances, peripheral neuropathy may improve, particularly if it is caused by a treatable condition. Most medications for the treatment of neuropathy simply mask the symptoms, rather than act to improve nerve health.

What causes Diabetic Neuropathy?

When peripheral neuropathy is caused by diabetes, the nerve damage occurs partly as the result of small vessel disease called “microangiopathy”. Contributors to diabetic microangiopathy are elevated blood glucose, elevated blood homocysteine and low levels of various vitamins particularly B1 and B12.  A persistent decrease in blood flow to nerve fibers can eventually starve the nerve of necessary oxygen and nutrients. In addition to the effects of microangiopathy, abnormal glucose metabolism may directly affect peripheral nerves in a deleterious manner. Elevated blood glucose may cause direct toxicity to nerves, or may result in nerve swelling, thereby causing nerve damage secondary to impingement.

At least 6 out of 10 people with diabetes will develop some degree of neuropathy.

Diabetic neuropathy is a frequent cause of foot ulceration and amputation.

NeuRx-TF is a safe, inexpensive product, containing four substances, all of which play a critical role in optimizing nerve health. Alpha-Lipoic Acid (ALA) metabolizes the body’s glucose. ALA is an antioxidant and recycler of Vitamin C. ALA lowers blood glycemic levels. ALA appears to function in protecting peripheral nerves. ALA, taken daily may show a decrease in neuropathy symptoms.  Benfotiamine is a fat-soluble derivative of Vitamin B1 and is metabolized by the body more readily than vitamin B1. Benfotiamine blocks destructive biochemical pathways that enable high blood sugar levels to damage nerves and small blood vessels. Vitamin B6 is also found in NeuRX-TF and functions as coenzymes in amino acid and glucose metabolism. Vitamin B6 plays a role in the production of crucial neurotransmitters, and in the formation of the nerve sheath, which helps the peripheral nerves to function. Lastly, Vitamin B12 helps form the sheath around the nerves and helps decrease symptoms related to diabetes-associated small fiber peripheral neuropathy following daily treatment.

Take care of yourself by taking care of your feet. Inspect your feet daily for cracks, cuts, blisters, redness, swelling, calluses or other problems. Be aware that you may not initially notice numbness or tingling in your feet because it is a slowly advancing process. Alert your doctor of any changes. Feel free to stop by our office and purchase NeuRX-TF. It is and over the counter product and you do not need to be a patient to purchase it.
