Ever look at your shoes and wonder why they wear down they way they do? Well, you are not alone! I get many questions about wear patterns on shoes and may surprise some patients when I tell them that the wear pattern is normal.
Any wear to the outside of this is in a supinated, or high-arched foot, and any wear inside of this is in a pronated, or low-arched foot. So, if you see that the back of your shoes are worn across the entire outer part of the heel, then you have a pronating foot. A shoe more appropriate for your foot, such as a motion control shoe, and an orthotic/insert can help correct the bad alignment causing this and help relieve any pain that may be associated with it.
